Señorios de Relleu: A unique olive oil experience on the coast of Alicante

In this blog I want to tell you more about my new addition to my webshop: Señorios de Relleu, where a passion for olive oil and a family tradition come together.

In the summer of 2023 I was in the province of Alicante and discovered a new olive oil supplier in the region where I have been visiting for years.

History of Señorios de Relleu

After making an appointment, I was received by Hugo and Gaby. Hugo told me about the history of their olive oil.

He told me that Señorios de Relleu is the life's work of his father Eliseo Quintanilla Almagro, born into a farming family in Cartagena. His journey began in the pharmaceutical world, where he discovered purely natural remedies. More than 15 years ago he turned his attention to the beneficial properties of Oleuropein in olive leaves, developing a close bond with the olive grove that he later transferred to him (Hugo).

Relleu is located ten kilometers from the Mediterranean Sea and at the foot of the Sierra de Aitana. It is the ideal environment for olive trees. At 429 meters above sea level, with almost three thousand hours of sunshine per year, native olive trees thrive alongside almond trees, surrounded by vast mountain fields of Aleppo pines, carob trees, rosemary and more.

Various Olive Tree Species and Exclusive Tasting

During my visit to the olive grove and the "Masia Teuladi" olive oil press, led by Hugo, I discovered that Señorios de Relleu has more than 100 different types of olive trees, including some indigenous varieties from the region and Catalonia. Under the guidance of Gaby, I had the opportunity to do an extensive tasting, revealing the diversity of olive oil types.

Their range consists of 4 different types of cuts, which are composed based on intensity; Delicate, Medium, Intense and Organic. To give an idea of which flavor suits which dish, this overview helps:

Innovation

What makes the Señorios de Relleu bottle extra special is the use of aluminum. This not only ensures a lower weight and therefore lower shipping costs, it is also less likely to break during shipping, but it also ensures that the bottle is airtight and lighttight. This contributes to maintaining the quality of the olive oil, so it stays fresh for longer and arrives at your home in perfect condition.

For their packaging designs, Señorios de Relleu has won several awards for best packaging design at the International Olive Oil Competition of Los Angeles (USA) and the Italian competition Le Forme Dellolio.

Michelin Star Restaurant "El Xato"

The experience was completed for me by a visit to the Michelin Star restaurant "El Xato" in La Nucia.

To my great surprise, Señorio de Relleu olive oil was served here, accompanied by various delicious breads. A perfect ending to my visit to the Masia of Señorio de Relleu.

Immerse yourself in the world of Señorios de Relleu and discover the taste of passion, care and tradition, wrapped in every drop of their beautiful olive oil.
